ACES Wildlife Rescue

A Beacon of Conservation in Belize

The American Crocodile Education Sanctuary (ACES) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of Belize’s native wildlife and their critical habitats. Founded in 2020 and permitted by the Belize Forest Department, ACES provides 24/7 emergency response to injured, ill, or orphaned wildlife. Initially focused on preserving the crocodile population, ACES expanded its remit to include all local wildlife, registering as a non-profit organization in 2021.

ACES is deeply committed to community outreach and education. Through various programs and guided tours, ACES educates locals and visitors about the importance of wildlife conservation and the unique biodiversity of Belize. The organization’s efforts have fostered a greater appreciation for the natural environment and encouraged community involvement in conservation activities.

ECI Development and ACES: A Strong Partnership

ECI Development, a prominent property developer in Central and Latin America, has a longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and community support. Recognizing the invaluable work of ACES, ECI has formed a robust partnership with the organization to aid in its wildlife conservation efforts. This collaboration has resulted in several impactful projects, including the mangrove reforestation initiative on Ambergris Caye.

Transformative Donations: Fueling Wildlife Rescue

In 2022, ECI Development facilitated a generous anonymous donation of $100,000 USD to ACES. Joel Nagel, co-founder of ECI, delivered the donation to Chris Summers, the Director of Operations at ACES. This crucial funding has enabled ACES to expand its facilities, enhance its rehabilitative capabilities for avian and reptilian species, and continue its vital conservation work within Belize’s ecosystem.

Additionally, ECI’s ongoing financial support, volunteer efforts, and representation on ACES’s board have significantly bolstered the organization’s operations. Michael K. Cobb, CEO and co-founder of ECI, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting ACES both financially and through active participation in its conservation initiatives.

Mangrove Reforestation: Revitalizing Ambergris Caye

One of the noteworthy projects undertaken by ACES and funded by ECI is the mangrove reforestation project on Ambergris Caye. This initiative focuses on planting red mangrove propagules, a species crucial to the local ecosystem. The roots of red mangroves trap sediment, prevent erosion, and provide habitats for numerous marine species. By replanting mangroves in areas where they have been destroyed due to development, ACES aims to restore these vital ecosystems and promote environmental sustainability.

Protecting Belize’s Biodiversity for Future Generations

The partnership between ECI Development and ACES Wildlife Rescue exemplifies a successful collaboration aimed at preserving Belize’s rich biodiversity. With ongoing support and generous donations, ACES continues to make significant strides in wildlife conservation, ensuring that Belize’s natural heritage is protected for future generations.
