The Hope and Development Foundation was founded in 2010 as a non-profit organization committed to improving education in Villa el Carmen, Nicaragua. Business representative Joel Nagel, accompanied by Mike Cobb, of the Gran Pacifica Resort, a business located in Villa El Carmen, has generously devoted his time and resources into helping the community. Their organization’s objective is to equip the upcoming generation with the necessary skills and knowledge to become future leaders within their community.

The Hope and Foundation school’s mission is to cultivate English language proficiency. They aim to introduce English language instruction to lower grade levels, which is one of their biggest challenges. This is very important for children entering high school in order to make their transition smoother. Also, it provides them with expanded career opportunities, access to diverse educational resources, improved communication skills, and personal growth.

Provide Opportunities for the Next Generation of Leaders

The Hope and Development Foundation has been a dedicated force in serving the surrounding communities of Milagro del Mar. From their inception until 2013, their efforts primarily centered around empowering children through education. Let’s take a closer look at their impactful activities:

The Foundation created and paid for a program to teach English across 12 elementary schools which has helped children find their classes easier to follow. In addition, the foundation implemented the renowned “Khan Academy” math program in two grades, fostering a love for numbers and problem-solving. In 2013, students in the foundation signed up for the Khan Academy, and scored more than 15% higher than average in all different math categories.

Recognizing the importance of continuous learning, the foundation ensured that the associate director received specialized teaching training in Washington, D.C., further enhancing their expertise. Moreover, they generously donated schools and sports supplies to multiple homeowners, enabling access to essential resources for education and physical development.

The foundation went beyond the classroom, extending its care and support to over 290 children and adults through diagnosis and care. The impact of their work has been truly far-reaching.

Collaboration was a key aspect of their endeavors. A representative from the Florida Rotary Club joined forces with the foundation, dedicating their time and expertise to the San Diego School. Not only that, but they also contributed construction materials, creating a lasting impact on the school’s infrastructure.

The Hope and Development Foundation also received donations from esteemed establishments, such as the Sea Mist Spa and Tosca Restaurant. This support from local businesses demonstrated a shared commitment to making a difference.

March 2013 marked an exciting new chapter for the organization as they joined forces with Patrick Heibert and a group of passionate individuals from Canada. Together, they embarked on a transformative journey to revitalize El Zapote School, breathing new life into its educational environment.

Through their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication, the Hope and Development Foundation has fostered hope and empowered communities, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals.
